Autism speaks sues autistic person

According to this discussion board post, Autism Speaks is suing an Aspie teenager over a parody site called something like "NT Speaks." They claim that the parody site cost them a million dollars in donations. Boy, if one site can cost Autism Speaks a million dollars, let's hear it for parodies!

Oh wow, we better not let them see the "Cure Neurotypicals Now" mirror we've been maintaining for a while...

A million?

Gee. I wonder how much my burning hatred costs them. Every day I wake up, I don't donate them any money. Sooner or later, it has to add up to a million, right?

The lawsuit has now been dropped, apparently. I still don't see how Autism Speaks would have had a case anyway, since I thought parody was protected under the law.

Surprised to see this was greenlighted on Fark...

Autism Speaks, a charity that claims to speak for autistic people sues 14-year-old autistic kid when she starts a parody website about autistic people being able to speak for themselves. K-Mart sucks

Close? The irony is blinding!

Should definitely countersue for the downtime of the website and damages.

Bravo for them and thumbs down to autism squeaks for trying to sue an autistic child!

Lost millions? Serves them right. Especially if they're hypocritical enough to sue an autistic kid.

I just do not get how they could have proven that. Actually it is press for the site called NT Speaks. So many who had never heard of that site now have. This silly law suite save the teen lots of money and time. Very odd indeed!

Doesnt surprise me at all. Autism speak is a business, and as such all they care about is money.

How ironic. They won't let autism speak for real.

Posted some stuff about this on another forum. It's not just us aspies that think they're nuts.

How fucking ironic that these people enrich themselves with millions of dollars through donations from spreading the fear that autistic children will never maintain a good job! It is the same lie of neoliberalism all over again.

I can't believe the irony. To call a site "Autism Speaks" and then threaten to sue an autistic child for speaking.

"You may speak, but only if we like what you have to say."
